Yes, the language used would indicate he started the game normally if they highlight a players performance they mostly indicate if he was a replacement at some point or not in the match which they don't, the Sun Herald used similar language in their praise of Charlton.

Agreed. But is this the article that says Charlton played the whole game?

Last post by Paul Carter - 17 April, 2024, 03:49:03 PM
I just thought I would let you know. In the game between Parramatta and South Queensland at Parramatta Stadium on June 8, 1997.
-That Parramatta Lead 32-6 at Halftime.
-Jarrod McCracken was Parramatta Captain.
-Sorry to point this out. I notice in that game for Parramatta. That you have Andrew Frew Wearing No. 5. Daniel Brown Wearing No. 9. Nathan Cayless Wearing No. 14. Nathan Koina Wearing No. 15. Jamie Smith Wearing No. 16. Leon Douglas Wearing No. 17.
-Also for South Queensland. You have Troy Pezet Wearing No. 17.
-Frew Wore No. 19. When he played Winger for Parramatta in that game.
-Brown Wore No. 14. When he played Hooker for Parramatta in that game.
-Cayless Wore No. 15. Koina Wore No. 16. Smith Wore No. 21. Douglas Wore No. 22. When they all came off the Bench for Parramatta in that game.
-Pezet Wore No. 47. When he came off the Bench for South Queensland in that game.

I have noted that Stan Cutler was a replacement in this game but I can't find the reference now, this is what I have loaded in RLP.

The Sun Herald reports that Geoff Robinson replaced Steve Hage when he went off and that Phil Charlton at prop was in fine form so I suspect that Charlton & Hage come into the team when Gary Stevens pulled out with Robinson moving to the bench and John Coveney to 2nd row. Daily Mirror also indicates that Charlton was prop for the entire match.

Feedback/Suggestions / Re: 1935 University players
Last post by GregRLP - 15 April, 2024, 01:08:32 PM
Thanks Max I have now updated all of these.

@Ted Baxter Greg Sullivan is a bit of a weird one in 1931 to 1933 he was a hooker in 1934 he only played reserve & 3rd grade always in the backs or 5/8 in 1935 he played his 3 1st grade games as a lock but seemed to have played wing in reserve grade in 1936 as C Sullivan he played wing in 1st grade then as G Sullivan also wing in reserves.

Is this G Sullivan the same person 1931-1936 or 2 different people 1931-1933 & 1934-1936?

I'd suggest M Timbs was Maurice Timbs. He appears in university examination results which were published in the newspapers during that period. His details are available here: Maurice Carmel Timbs, born 14 July 1917 in Glen Innes, NSW, died 6 December 1994.
