- Eric McCormack was born in 1905 in Kalgoorlie, WA, and died on 3 June 1997. His full name was Eric Roland McCormack.
- Eric was the brother of Jack McCormack, who played as a fullback for St George and several rep teams between 1927 and 1932. Jack's games are currently listed on the profile of Jim McCormack who later played as a forward for Souths and Canterbury.
- Jack McCormack was born in 1903 in Northcote, in Melbourne, Victoria, and died on 16 July 1996. His full name was John Charles McCormack.
- Jim McCormack was born on 8 December 1909 in Barraba, NSW, and died on 13 June 1969. His full name was James Thomas McCormack. He was not related to Eric and Jack.
- NB: The DOB currently listed on Jim's profile, 25 June 1904, is attributed to Jack on Wikipedia. It's definitely not Jim's DOB, but it may or may not be Jack's DOB (I can't check due to how the Victoria Birth Index website functions without buying the birth record). Jack was definitely born in 1903 not 1904 though.

I just thought I would let you know. In the game between South Queensland and Illawarra at Lang Park on July 19, 1997.
-That Craig Smith was the Channel 9 Nokia Player of the Match.
-Illawarra Lead 6-4 at Halftime.
-Jason Hudson was Sent to the Sin Bin for 10 Minutes.
-Paul McGregor was Illawarra Captain.
-Sorry to point this out. I notice in that game for Illawarra. that you have Trent Barret playing Winger. You also have Wayne Clifford playing Five-Eigth.
-Wayne Clifford was Illawarra Winger for that game Instead of Barrett.
-Barrett was Illawarra Five-Eigth for that game Instead of Clifford.
-Also for South Queensland. You have Michael Davis Wearing No. 17.
-While for Illawarra. You have Darren Bradstreet Wearing No. 15.
-Davis Wore No. 26. When he came off the Bench for South Queensland in that game.
-Bradstreet Wore No. 25. When he came off the Bench for Illawarra in that game.
-Hudson being Sent to the Sin Bin in that game. Was not listed underneath the Teams and Scorers for this game. In the NRL Rugby League Yearbook 1998.

Something to add to the match notes - Liam Martin wore the number 24 jersey in the second half as his number 12 jersey was damaged to treat a shoulder injury

Feedback/Suggestions / Eddie and Stan Root
Last post by Max Turner - 05 April, 2024, 10:42:28 PM
Eddie Root listed his birthplace as Alexandria, NSW on several records, which would be consistent with his birth having been registered in Waterloo.

There are two comments on Eddie's page suggesting his DOB is incorrect, however, I am confident that 26 June 1902 is correct. This is corroborated by this contemporary article in The Brisbane Courier and is also listed by the SSR Almanac site, which I have found to be pretty reliable. The incorrect date appears to have come from the same Wikipedia user mentioned previously. The comments on Eddie's page are probably honest mistakes by people relying on Wikipedia, but in the interest of limiting the damage done by this Wikipedia editor, would it be reasonable to remove these comments? They are both dated after the misinformation was added to Wikipedia.

Also, a comment on Eddie's WWI service: Eddie enlisted on 31 March 1917, which means he was 14 years and 9 months old (not 16 as Whiticker's bio says). The South Sydney Sentinal reports on this fact (though incorrectly giving his birthdate as the 20th), and says he served "at the front." Several other sources call him a Digger. Eddie's service record shows he was discharged in April 1917 when it was discovered he was underage. The Brisbane Courier article linked above says Root "wears a Returned Soldier's medal." I'd suggest Eddie was probably not eligible for any medals (there is usually a page in the service record detailing the medals awarded), so was this falsely obtained by Root? Or did he enlist again (perhaps under a different name)? One to come back to later on I think...

Stan Root was born 24 January 1924 in Newtown, NSW, and died on 17 June 1973. His full name was Stanton William Root.

Stan Root was the son of Eddie Root.
