I was looking at the annual you produced for 2023 & in the list of rugy league people that died during 2023 was Phil Carey former Manly & Canberra player.

https://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/players/phil-carey/summary.html

I used to watch Phil play at Seiffert Oval for a few years & wanted to find out a little more. In the Middleton annual on p18 (last entry) it had that former Balmain player Phillip Carey had died on 8 January 2023, the same date that it is listed that Phil Carey died.

The only other thing I could find was from the Central Western Daily:

https://www.centralwesterndaily.com.au/story/8057058/tributes-paid-to-a-great-mentor-and-great-bloke-who-made-lasting-impact-with-orange-cyms/

which would indicate it was Phillip Carey that had died instead.

It was the Phillip Carey who played for Balmain who passed away last year. Which I remember seeing a few reports about.
-As far I know the Phil Carey who played for Manly and Canberra is still alive.

Yes I believe you both are correct and I have updated RLP to reflect this however @AndrewRLP will need to make a correction to the annual.

Good eye, Ted!

Phil Carey (Balmain)'s death notice in the Sydney Morning Herald gives his full name as Philip Vincent Carey, spelled with one 'l' in his given name. This spelling is corroborated by electoral roll entries on Ancestry.com.

Well done guys.

I have made the changes in RLP you may still see some pages with Phillip and not Philip for a few days but all will catchup eventually.

Anyone got a date &/or place of birth so we can complete his record.

Thanks

Thanks, Max. It was only that I found him (Phil) to be a bit of a fan favourite watching him all those years ago & I felt saddened that he had passed & looked for further information. Fortunately for Phil & unfortunately for Philip, it was the different player. As long as the right thing is done, that's what I care about.
