The Wests Archives show Gary Gunton at fullback with Dick Pickett in the centre and John Armstrong & John Hayes as replacements.

I agree with what you have indicated as Gary Gunton was not selected in any grade that round so highly unlikely he played but can you please double check your footage.

Thanks

Sorry to do this to you Greg, have footage of this game with Rex calling.

Your numbering is correct except Barry Glasgow switched to 5/8 and wore no.3. There is no number 6 in footage

though there is a number 3.

This article from Friday's SMH would support the changes:

Western Suburbs last night swung hardrunning utility player John Armstrong into the centre for tomorrow's match against Souths at Redfern Oval. The selectors decided on the move when five-eighth Tim Murphy pulled out because of strained stomach muscles. Centre Barry Glasgow has been shifted to five-eighth, with Armstrong now partnering another powerful runner, Roy Ferguson, in the centre.

In the footage there is also a number 18 who is packing into scrums he came on for Noel Kelly who isn't in the scrum, the footage is from second half.

This player is John Hayes.

The team:

5 - Pickett

2 - Flanders

16 - Armstrong

4 - Ferguson

15 - Rogers

3 - Glasgow

7 - Maxwell

8 - Baker

9 - Cody

10 - Bryant

11 - Kelly

12 - Stonestreet

24 - Winter

Reserve:

18 - Hayes

I checked the Tooth Cup video and had a closer look Downie has wavey hair Folkes' was pretty straight the player at 0:50 mark seems to have straighter hair than Downie so I'm happy it is Steve Folkes.

So I have given Folkes jersey 15 so no idea what jersey Downie wore so I've given him 16.

Thanks.

OK, but he doesn't look like the Ray Downie I have in footage from R1 Tooth Cup 81 V Easts, R4 1981 V Balmain, R25 1982 V Wests, more Steve Folkes. :)

Thanks Ted I'm happy that 14 is probably Dave Moffett & 26 is definitely Stan Cutler but not convinced with the player closest to the camera at the 0:50 mark being Steve Folkes or that his jersey is #15.

From the only picture I can find of Ray Downie it could just as well be him and the jersey could be 15, 16, 18 or 19.
