John Gocher refereed this game. It was the Ch7 match. During the first half Les Boyd ran over the top of Gocher whilst backing up Rick Chisholm when he made a break.

Unfortunately for the injured Gocher he was unable to continue on and was replaced by Barry Barnes for the remainder of the game.

Gocher did not referee for the next 4 weeks. When he did come back he went on to referee the grand final.
