Sorry to do this to you Greg, have footage of this game with Rex calling.

Your numbering is correct except Barry Glasgow switched to 5/8 and wore no.3. There is no number 6 in footage

though there is a number 3.

This article from Friday's SMH would support the changes:

Western Suburbs last night swung hardrunning utility player John Armstrong into the centre for tomorrow's match against Souths at Redfern Oval. The selectors decided on the move when five-eighth Tim Murphy pulled out because of strained stomach muscles. Centre Barry Glasgow has been shifted to five-eighth, with Armstrong now partnering another powerful runner, Roy Ferguson, in the centre.

In the footage there is also a number 18 who is packing into scrums he came on for Noel Kelly who isn't in the scrum, the footage is from second half.

This player is John Hayes.

The team:

5 - Pickett

2 - Flanders

16 - Armstrong

4 - Ferguson

15 - Rogers

3 - Glasgow

7 - Maxwell

8 - Baker

9 - Cody

10 - Bryant

11 - Kelly

12 - Stonestreet

24 - Winter

Reserve:

18 - Hayes

The Wests Archives show Gary Gunton at fullback with Dick Pickett in the centre and John Armstrong & John Hayes as replacements.

I agree with what you have indicated as Gary Gunton was not selected in any grade that round so highly unlikely he played but can you please double check your footage.

Thanks

GregRLP

I have passed this info onto the Wests Archive so they can amend their details for this game.

Thanks Greg....I spoke with Wests Archives.

I can send you the footage so it is clearer what we are talking about.

Gunton didn't appear in any grade again until Rounds 20,21 and 22.

The previous week he had struggled against Newtown in windy conditions.

Thanks it would be good to see for myself I have also been corresponding with Tony at the Archive he told me you had made contact he has the same footage and says he thinks #18 is Noel Kelly and that John Hayes didn't play(or at least is not shown in the video) so are you still certain #18 is Hayes and you don't agree with Tony?

As I don't have the footage I have can't offer an opinion if you can email the footage to gfiveash@bigpond.com would be great.

In respect to Gunton we have agreed he didn't play this game and that Dick Picket was fullback and John Armstrong started in the centre so they will update their game details soon just waiting some other members of the archive to agree who #18 is.

Thanks Greg.

Originally I spoke with Tony.

Gunton didn't play as I sent Wests Archives the programme with Gunton penned in for the game against Manly in R1.

My final thoughts are 18 looks like Kelly physically, the question is why is he wearing No.18?

Could it be his jersey was torn during the game?

Another option is Hayes started and Kelly came on to replace him. However this hasn't been reported in newspaper reports so unlikely.

Personally I don't believe Hayes played as I can't see anyone who looks like him.

I've sent you an email and will send footage.
