So, from that list, a few newspaper clippings & the team listings, I have come up with a most likely list (IMO).

Anderson played 1 game & we know it was R4
Cassilles played 1 game & we know it was R4
Charlton played 3 games & we know they were R1,2 & 4
Cole played 2 games & we know 1 was R4. I am certain the other R3, because he was suspended for R1+2.
Connell played 3 games. We know 1 was R1. He pulled out of the R2 game, so I am sure he played in R3+4
Cutler played all 4 games
Dowling played 3 games & we know they were R1+2+3
Gillogly played 1 game. I am GUESSING it was R2 as a replacement.
Howard did not play any games.
Garry Hughes is listed as having played 2 games & Graeme Hughes 0. I believe the club got them mixed up & Graeme played 2 games because according to DM 1-3-1974, it said that Stringer & Graeme Hughes were to play half a game each. It doesn't look like Graeme was available for R1, but was for R3+4. I am GUESSING he was a replacement in R4.
Mark Hughes played 3 games. He was named in R3, but was replaced by Winchester, so he played R1+2,4.
Lowther played 3 games & we know they were R1+2+3.
Murphy played in all 4 games.
McDonnell played 3 games & we know they were R1+3+4.
Noonan played 3 games & we know they were R1+2+3.
Peek played 3 games & we know they were R1+2+3.
Phillis played 3 games. He was named in R1 but pulled out, so he played in R2+3+4.
Rogers played in all 4 games.
Stringer played 2 games. We know he played in R2. I am GUESSING that he was a replacement in R3 after having played in R2.
Tatana played in 3 games & we know he played in R1+3+4.
Ron Taylor played 1 game. He was a hooker. Peponis was the 2nd rated hooker & was available for R1+2+3, but didn't play. He wasn't available for R4, so I am GUESSING that Taylor played in R4.
Thomas played in 3 games. Named as a replacement in R1, Howard didn't play in R2, so GUESS that Thomas promoted to start & named to play in R3.
Winchester played in 3 games. He was originally named in R2 before pulling out, so he played in R1+3+4.
Young played in all 4 games.
Peponis did not play any games.

Last post by Ted Baxter - 29 April, 2025, 10:44:24 PMJust watching some highlights from this game, there was a Roosters player on the field who wore number 13 before Brass' first goal which was at around 11 minutes. I assume this is Ken Jones because Frier did not come onto the field until around the 65 minute mark. That then leaves the question of what number did Laurie Frier wear?

Last post by Ted Baxter - 28 April, 2025, 02:23:46 AMThey do funny things at times. Sometimes they use a starting number, sometimes they use a reserve number & sometimes they pluck one from nowhere. I think sometimes players have a lucky number.

Last post by GregRLP - 25 April, 2025, 12:09:03 AMThanks Ted I also only have a reference of Peter Winchester taking the field for Canterbury your probably right with Scahill & Rogers likely missing out there is no way to be sure that was the case hence by comment in the game notes I suspect Henry Tatana was replaced which is why Lowther had a shot at goal but can't be sure there is no reference to it.

Goal Kicking: The same as listed except for Paul Dowling (WD) who kicked 1/3. The Central Western Daily dated 19-7-1974 says that "Dowling missed two comparatively easy attempts at goal".
Players: WD: I have confirmed through newspapers & the book the Day the Music Died that all those listed took the field.
CB: I have confirmed that all but Max Cole & Howard played. They probably played, but I cannot find any written confirmation. The reserves that were listed on the program for CB were 14. Graeme Hughes, 15. Ron Taylor, 16. Phil Charlton, 17. Dennis Scahill, 18. Don Rogers & 19. Peter Winchester. I have only found reference to Winchester. I would imagine that CB would have only put 1 back on the bench, so I would guess that Scahill & Rogers missed out.
