These have now all been updated along with all the 1997 Super League games with the half time scores and corrected scrum & penalty counts for some reason most of them were wrong.

Quote from: Max Turner on 29 September, 2024, 12:44:46 PMRound 16: Eastern Suburbs vs Penrith (17 June 1984)
As best I can tell, this game is the difference between whether Royce Simmons played 237 or 238 games for Penrith. A lot of sites list this game as one of Simmons' 238 games for Penrith, whereas RLP has Craig Connor as starting hooker (and therefore 237 career games for Simmons).

RL Tables lists Simmons as hooker, while @roofromoz's site has a discrepancy on whether he played (counted here towards Royce's 238, but Simmons not listed in the match page).

It appears to me Simmons did not play in this game, so RLP is correct, unless anyone has differing information. @Paul Carter?

Or maybe someone has another explanation to bring Simmons up to 238 games on RLP. Otherwise the recent reporting from the club and the media were unfortunately incorrect in listing Simmons with 238 games.

Some relevant excerpts from the Sydney Morning Herald:

Quote from: Sydney Morning Herald, 13 June 1984PENRITH: M Levy (c), B Lobb, R Gigg, K Wolffe, B Gonzales, B Izzard, G Alexander, P Burgmann, G Howell, W Fenton, J Vitanza, C Connor, M Goodwin.

...

Penrith provided a surprise last night when they selected their talented lock Craig Connor as hooker for Sunday's match against Eastern Suburbs at the Sports Ground. Connor has impressed as a lock and, with Royce Simmons in the State side, coach Tim Sheens decided to utilise the hooking talents he displayed on a New Zealand tour of the State Under-18 team four years ago.
Quote from: Sydney Morning Herald, 18 June 1984Their usual skipper, Royce Simmons, who will hook for NSW in the State of Origin match against Queensland at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday night, was impressed. "They really played well - particularly in the second half," Simmons said.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention - the results link corresponding to that 1984 match doesn't have him on the match list.

I'll add this to my off-season list of housekeeping amendments. :)

Hi @GregRLP, good question...

Percival Victor Hill appears in electoral rolls living in Cremorne throughout the 1930s (and many years after that), whereas Victor Owen Hill shows up at Dulwich Hill (1934-35) and Lilyfield (1936). I'm afraid to say this might have been what misled me.

This is Victor Owen Hill's service record with the RAAF. It shows his address was in Drummoyne and he served in Laverton, Victoria about 1927-28. This seems reasonably consistent with this article (although it mentions Point Cook airbase instead of Laverton airbase).

I have now found V. O. Hill appearing in team lists for Manly RU (which was just a week before Vic Hill made his change to North Sydney RL).

So, I agree Vic Hill's correct details should be:
- Victor Owen Hill
- Born 20 December 1904 in Leichhardt NSW
- Died 2 June 1990
- Nickname of Albo is still correct
- The additional info about him playing RU for Victoria and NSW is still correct, but he would have been aged 27 when he changed codes

My apologies for the error, and thanks to the person (Tony McCarron?) who noticed it!

Thanks Paul it's impossible to know exactly what number a replacement player wears the assumption is here should be wearing the number he has in the programme but this is not always the case so unless video exists you have to go with the number in the programme.

Feedback/Suggestions / John Booby Number North Sydney...
Last post by Paul Carter - 02 November, 2024, 10:49:15 AM
Sorry to point this out. I notice for the game between Manly and North Sydney at the Sydney Cricket Ground on July 5, 1969.
-I notice for North Sydney. That you have John Booby Wearing No. 14.
-John Booby Wore No. 1. When he played Fulback for North Sydney in that game.
-Booby was listed to Wear No. 14. In the Rugby League News Programme for this game.
-However when I watched edited highlights of this game 3 years ago. On page I did have on my likes on Facebook called Footy on Film. Which has since been shutdown.
-I noticed Booby Wearing the Number I have mentioned.
