Feedback/Suggestions / Re: 1935 South Sydney players
Last post by Max Turner - Today at 09:01:34 PM
Some more Souths players:
- Fred Blann was born in Surry Hills, NSW.
- Jim Deeley: surname seems to be Deeley in newspaper articles, but Deely in records. Born 28 July 1910 in Sydney, NSW, died 27 March 1986. His full name on his birth and death records is James Francis Deely, whereas his electoral rolls and military record lists James William Deely. SSR Almanac has his full name as James Francis William Deely.
- Charlie Fennell, born 12 January 1904 in Waterloo, NSW, died 22 July 1970. His full name was Charles William James Fennell.
- Harry Finch's full name was Harry Alfred Finch.
- Sid Harris' date of death should be 30 September 1965, instead of the 29th.
- John Kollias, born 17 May 1912 in Marrickville, NSW, died 16 September 1954. Full name was John Edwin Kollias, and was known as Jack. He died of an accident while serving with the Army in Kure, Japan.
- Vic Moses, born 13 August 1911 in Narrabri, NSW, died 9 December 1987. Full name was Victor John Moses.
- Arthur Potter, born 28 February 1910 in New Zealand (Mangaweka), died 8 November 1984. Full name was Arthur Augustus Potter.
- Sid Sampson, born 3 February 1909 in Sydney, NSW, died 18 September 1984. Full name was Sidney Alfred Gladstone Sampson.
- Albert Spillane should be Arthur. Born 20 December 1902 in Newtown, NSW, died 29 June 1983. Full name was Arthur William Spillane, and his nickname was Buller.
- George Treweek was born in Adelong, NSW. His death date should be 29 October 1991 instead of the 28th. Full name was Albert George Treweek.
- Just a comment on the spelling of his surname: It seems the family name was originally Treweek, which is the spelling on George's birth record. His electoral registration was originally Treweek, but later became Treweeke. Treweeke is used on his death record. Without knowing George's opinion, I wouldn't necessarily call Treweeke an incorrect spelling, just a variation.

The Wellington from Leeton was sometimes referred to as being A.Wellington and J.Wellington and is definitely not the same as the Sydney player.

-That Parramatta Lead 10-2 at Halftime.
-Sorry to point this out. I notice in that game for Parramatta. That you have Ian Gately having 2 Attempts at Goal.
-Ian Gately actually had 3 Attempts at Goal in that game.

Thanks Max I wasn't sure with Leon I took the punt you just left off the Quinlivan and that Clinton was an extra middle name anyway fixed now.

Quote from: Max Turner on 14 May, 2024, 09:38:15 PM- Leon Clinton, born 9 February 1913 in Taree, NSW, died 27 September 1989. Full name was Leon Gerald Clinton.
I've written Clinton here instead of Quinlivan and completed glossed over it during a proofread. Leon's middle name should just be Gerald, Clinton is an error. My apologies.

Quote from: GregRLP on 16 May, 2024, 11:06:14 PMAny idea on B & T Quinlivan are they brothers or cousins to the above as they are from North Coast as well.
I couldn't find anyone with those initials, but can only assume they're related somehow. Will have to spend more time on this family later.

It's possible B Quinlivan is Fred "Boy" Quinlivan, but they don't seem to have played in the same positions. Just a theory though.

The only question to me would be why always 21,525, why not 21,526 or 21,524? It's interesting though.

Oscar and Allan's DOBs are completely wrong (including the year for Oscar), which appears to have come from Wikipedia. SSR Almanac lists the same DOBs I have found:
- Oscar Quinlivan's DOB should be 4 December 1896. His full name was Oscar John Quinlivan.
- Alan Quinlivan should be Allan, although Alan appears to be a common misspelling. Allan's DOB and birthplace should be 22 January 1915 in Taree, NSW. Full name was Allan Adrian Beresford Quinlivan.

- Clinton Quinlivan, born 8 May 1908 in Taree, NSW, died 12 November 1980. Full name was Clinton James Quinlivan.
- Leon Clinton, born 9 February 1913 in Taree, NSW, died 27 September 1989. Full name was Leon Gerald Clinton.
- Jack Quinlivan, born 9 July 1921 in Taree, NSW, died 23 October 1978. Full name was Jack Gregory Quinlivan.

- J Quinlivan was Jasper Quinlivan, born 13 April 1906 in Taree, NSW, died 20 November 1978. Full name was Jasper Arthur Quinlivan. He was a brother of all of the above.
- F Quinlivan was Fred Quinlivan, born 21 January 1899 in Taree, died 17 November 1976. Full name was Robert Frederick Quinlivan, and his nickname was Boy. He was a brother of all of the above.
