Bruce Longbottom gave an interview at DansNRL were he states that he replaced Ron Gibbs in this game and it was his only 1st grade game for Easts.

"How was it playing for Eastern Suburbs Roosters in 1983?

I was playing in a coaching academy in 1981 and I came second out of the group.

I joined the Roosters because I had a mate going there.  I played the whole season in Reserve Grade.  I managed a stint in First Grade when Ron Gibbs broke his leg and I came on as a replacement.  After that I played the rest of the season in Reserve or Third Grade.

The First Grade game was a real buzz, I was marking Michael O'Connor.[/i]"

Alan at the Roosters has agreed he played apparently the Roosters didn't produce and Annual Report in 1983 and they used The Sun tackle counts to compile the player list he will work on getting him a heritage number.

https://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/seasons/nswrl-1984/round-22/canterbury-bankstown-vs-cronulla-sutherland-sharks/summary.html

CB: 24. Daryl Brohman, 28. Andrew Farrar.
CS: 16. Paul Merlo

I think it would be safe to say Conlon kicked 1/2, it is unlikely he had any more shots at goal with that scoreline. He had 1/1 before it cut off & the Tunks try was still to come.

Tony Armstrong had kicked 2 from 6 at that stage with no further Cronulla tries to come, so unless he further penalty goals, that's what he kicked.

I have a 40-minute video of this game. Unfortunately, it cuts off before the Cronulla replacements come on. The other jumper numbers are correct.

Update: It appears Woodbury is wearing 18 as seen here

see 1:38:50 The sound & video are mismatched.

HT: CR20-8

CR: 16. Bell (see 43 sec), 4. Daley (5/8) (see 2:18), 11. Lance (see 1:14), 12. Coyne (see 1:13). Bench 17. Wood (see 6:30), 18. Carey (see 13:18), 23. David Woods (see 14:11 at prop in scrum), 40. Barnhill (see 11:51)

All numbers are what appear in BL & I sighted all players & their numbers except for Peacock who you can see his face at the very end of the video. All these replacements including spinks are noted in the BL V71 N15 P17.

Quote from: Ted Baxter on 30 May, 2026, 01:23:09 AMA notation for this game, Terry Lamb finished up in number 52 as you can see when he scores his last try & a few seconds earlier, Peter Johnston can be seen in number 53.

https://www.bulldogs.com.au/news/2026/05/28/highlights-bulldogs-vs-bears---round-10-1985/

Lamb has his jersey badly torn around the collar during the second last tackle of the first half as he was swung around.

Feedback/Suggestions / 1986 Penrith v Manly - Round 2...
Last post by ontheburst - 06 June, 2026, 02:34:33 PM
This was the NEC Big Game for Round 21.

You have in your game notes that Greg Alexander and Phil Blake shared the man of the match.

Whilst the award was shared it was actually Garry Longhurst the stand in hooker from Penrith and Blake who won

$375 each from NEC plus a trophy.

Also Peter Cullum was given 5 in the bin not Phil Blake.

Chris Blair was the replacement for Izzard as he is shown in a close up during the broadcast.

I have a copy of the full game.
