Last post by Ted Baxter - 21 April, 2025, 04:17:14 AMIn RLW V5 N24 dd 7-9-1974, on page 9, there is a story about Brian Milthorpe. In it, it states that the belated withdrawal of several top stars from the Illawarra side to play Canterbury in the AMCO Cup game gave Milthorpe a second chance to don the coveted red guernsey. So, we can add Milthorpe to the list of players for Illawarra, though I do not know who dropped out or if he was just a replacement.

For Canterbury, I could see 1-13 numbers there, for Wests, I could see all but no. 1 for Dorahy & 16 for Giteau BUT there was a number 3 which I am pretty sure is Giteau (see about 13 second mark to start with)

You have Phil Doherty as having played this game. He pulled out as stated in Illawarra Mercury dd 19-6-1974 & replaced by Brian Gardiner.
Tony Branson came on as a replacement - see Illawarra Mercury dated 20-6-1974.
Warwick Shirlaw was captain for Illawarra instead of Ron Costello as listed in the Daily Mirror 19-6-1974.
Mark Hughes came on as a replacement for Canterbury - see RLW V5 N14 dd 29-6-1974
Scrums: Canterbury 10-7. Penalties Illawarra 11-5. (see RLW)

The Hutt had lights whilst the Basin Reserve did not. This was played at 7.30pm on a Friday night.

- Hamish Edwards should be Herbert Edwards. Born 10 December 1902 in St Peters NSW, died 3 June 1975. Nickname was Snow
- Jack Holmes' (Australia, Newtown) DOB should be 14 October 1904
- Ken and Allan Burnell were brothers
- Hylton Davies was born in St Peters NSW
- Alf Davies who played for Newtown in 1936: born 16 June 1913 in St Peters NSW, died 14 February 1991. Full name Alfred Charles William Davies. Brother of Newtown's Jack and Hylton Davies
- The A Davies who played as a forward for Newtown in 1926-27 was a different person
